We had a pleasant AGM and Reunion at Reigate Manor Hotel on October 8th but there were only some 50 of us and we number 370 plus. It is the only real meeting we have in a year and clearly it is never possible that all can attend. But 50? Please tell us if it is the date/ place/ event that keeps you away. What would make it more attractive, interesting?
Next year is the 20th anniversary of the reformation of the Ashcombe Dorkinian Association and it would be nice if we could make it special. Even more so in Diamond Jubilee Year, Olympic Year 2012.
The display we had in Reigate of the 1947 and 1953 DCGS Panoramas proved of much interest. Ted Hazelden had produced a wide view of both, two Banners with a matching wide list of names. I produced three booklets containing the 1936, 1947, 1953, 1964 and 1974 Panorama photos with all the names we have so far, each listed in 6 sheets. It produced a crop of extra names which are all entered into the corresponding ‘Tools’ and spurred us on to produce booklets which will be available soon. Firstly for 1953, soon for 1947 and others later. You may get a fortaste looking on the Gallery Extras page; but the printed version is a bit neater, clearer. Some of you will have been sent a copy by email. We hope to collect a few more names and to receive corrections because whatever we can be, we cannot be two places in the same photo and I myself cannot say A is right and B is wrong. The person named is always the best judge as to which is right. Diana Wakeford nee Levete knew which was her and who was standing next to her.
Do please check and see how far we have got and whether we have you in the correct position etc. 1964 leads the way with 90% named. 1947 made a great burst forward and reached 60% named. 1974 now is the worst at 40% and with the worst photo. Hopefully that will get remedied soon.
